I did end up playing Lies of P for a while and somewhat liking it, though 1. the parry timing is totally inscrutable to me, I have no clue when I'm supposed to block 2. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop where the game is unplayable unless you memorize the parry timing

One thing the game doesn't communicate well is that your roll/dodge distance is doubled if you're under 30% equip load, which makes so much of an experiential difference that even as a majority parry player I can't go without it. If you spec into it I'm pretty sure a light-weight hybrid dodge/block build with no armor and a heavy weapon that blocks more damage is viable
