We'll only know how it works out when people have a chance to play with the sets that are going to use the new booster format. But immediate impressions... this reads like a compromise solution to a self-inflicted problem.

Set boosters were really kind of a microcosm of all the bad tendencies Magic has had in the last few years: making too many SKUs, treating 'excitement' as a proxy for 'quality,' and above all catering to the audience's bad taste...
