Alan Wake 2 is very self-indulgent and I think that's a hard stop for a lot of people but the key thing for me is that it's not self-indulgent in a way that's designed to make Sam Lake look cool; it's self indulgent in a way that's designed to make Sam Lake look goofy as hell

willing to be cringe and goofy as hell only makes him cooler. he's established a cool-cringe feedback loop.
realizing hes been wearing exclusively his in-game outfit for press events over the last year was really the last straw for me. oh this man is goofy. oh hes being SILLY. fuck off sam (deeply respectful)
