I’m so glad I’m no longer using Windows for my daily driver work machine. I think I might try setting up a Linux install for a gaming PC, too, given where Proton support is at now thanks to the Steam deck

i did it too and its just so nice!
the only downside is the vulkan shader shims need a beefier gfx card than whatever i have in my pc at home. in theory i should be able to play overwatch but in praxis the shaders are either just so many (i've let it sit "recompiling shaders" for HOURS) or my card is shitte.
if it's actually taking hours it's probably stuck... i dunno though i haven't got overwatch. but i'm pretty sure poe has way more shaders than that and it didn't take TOO long
i left it running hoping the single frame per sec would eventually mature to become a single digit frameRATE...
ymmv and i don't play a ton of AAA new releases but i haven't had to reboot into windows to play a game (ie bc proton was good enough) since around the time the pandemic started.
It's pretty ideal for gaming! I was running pop-os for a year and was playing Elden Ring more smoothly than on PC. I ended up switching back when I needed to deal with word processing and PDFs and some old tools. Things got nore complicated the more niche and retro they were.
