What I think really hits with the Curse is just how awful these people's dreams are. It's like, they're desperately struggling to sell this fantasy and the fantasy is... you get to live in a mirrored box in the middle of the desert and then you drive your F-150 Lightning out to get mediocre coffee and buy jeans in a strip mall off a stroad in New Mexico. All the environments and things the main characters are working for are hostile and unlivable car hells, and the discomfort from existing in these spaces just oozes off the screen.
