Convergent evolution is a common phenomenon where two organisms that are not closely related share similar traits because they are adapted to similar environments or niches. What makes it convergent is that the shared traits are analogous (have the same function or features) but not homologous (derive from the same shared ancestral trait). An example of convergent evolution in nature: katsuobushi and grated Parmesan
