Thinking I remember some of the games this is parodying, yes, I can see why this would be absolutely hilarious to a very specific subset of people who were in the indie game scene at a very specific point in time.
Yeah this is specifically a parody of Passage and Canabalt, two games that could not have more different intentions but end up controlling weirdly similarly.
Okay, yeah, Googling both, I definitely played the first, and heard of (But didn't play--I was more a BIT.TRIP RUNNER guy myself) the second--playing this I was like "Okay seems it's a runner game". That's why I at least got to "Okay I think I remember enough about that period to see why this would be hilarious if I remembered a bit more about it" versus just "huh?" like I imagine you would if you came into it "cold" in 2024.
