box arena is released!!!

it's 'the other side of the sky' by amie kaufman & meagan spooner!

i'd rate it 4ish out of 5. if you've read it i'd love to hear your thoughts, and i want to share my thoughts about it ! kinda! light spoilers under the cut :)

it's about 400 pages long, and the first 200 pages felt... generic and boring to me. it's like, girl is a goddess and boy is a prince but they are from two completely different worlds and they meet because the boy fell through to the girl's world and then they don't know each other's status and the girl is in Trouble because people don't Believe that she's a goddess that much anymore so they run around escaping and hiding and miscommunicating with everyone. it's interesting enough, but it felt a little draggy (felt like i went through 200 pages with no real progression or anything happening in the story), and they were a bit frustrating lol.

but around halfway through the book really started to pick up! the story actually progressed. we met characters who were deeper, the lore started connecting together, and this was when i started looking forward to the trips on public transport so i could read more of this book.

and then the final 100ish pages were really fun and intense and it ends on a pretty high note and i was like Oh Shit . it's a part of a series. guess i'll have to go back to the library really soon to find the next book!

i think the names of the characters are super interesting. like! north! nimhara! elkisa! jezara! now that i think about it there's a disproportionate amount of names ending with 'a', but they are so cool that it's excusable. wow.
