wishlist scroomage on steam!!!
if you're at all curious why the Group/Curator name is in all lowercase, it's because I wanted it to aesthetically match itch and itch.io itself, and definitely not because I didn't realize it was case sensitive and can never be changed
thanks! I've always organized my Steam wishlist into three sections: Released, Steam > Unreleased, Steam > also on itch, so the dual releases can hopefully get some wishlist juice without me accidentally purchasing them on Steam. after laboriously researching and reorganizing it yesterday I was like wait why don't I just do this for everyone lol
I'm going to start gamer-shaming people for unnecessarily giving gabe money in 2024
this rules! It's also extra fun because a build of a game I worked on recently got rejected from Steam because it has a link to a carrd page with an Itch link on there
yeah it's absolutely possible this will get axed for "promoting" a store other than Steam (even though it does not do that) but we'll have to wait and see!
OMG thank you so much. Steam has taxes in my state now and i prefer to support devs with a better cut on itch.
This is a great idea.
One thing I would be careful of is that there are a few games technically on itch that are not maintained/updated in line with the steam version.
yup! it's difficult to tell sometimes but all the games on there right now I've went in and confirmed are either at version parity, have inconsequential differences (i.e. the itch version is missing an update, but it's Steam-related), or, at the very least, I know that the itch version is a solid 1.0 and works just fine
I have a question, I'm a total noob in this. What is the difference for devs between Steam and itch,io?
Steam takes 30% of revenue from sales. itch allows devs to set the revenue share to whatever they want (it's just 10% to itch by default)
Steam tries to justify taking that 30% with its platform features and increased visibility, but for smaller devs, that's kinda hard to accept. and especially with things like Steam Discussions, which are mandatory and which Steam refuses to moderate, being on Steam can easily be a net negative. which platform works best is gonna vary from developer to developer, I mostly just want people to know when they have an option :)
