everyone i've talked to and read up stuff with about the source engine (including seeing videos of the actual devs for valves games losing their minds from the source code) indicates that the original source engine is infact, not fine lmao
literally the only way you'll have a "perfect" time with it is if you're using a heavily modified version of hammer that makes it not run like a sewer
and that's just if you're wanting to mod gmod, if you're wanting to make a full fledged mod you'd probably be wanting to use a version of the source engine like mapbase or strata
