one of my friends showed me and a few others the pilot for The Amazing Digital Circus and, goddamn i gotta say, it is fucking amazing.
I had seen the show beginning to pop up really quick despite just releasing and one of my friends, who is a huge film buff was singing his praises about it, comparing it to Soma. He decided to show it to us after a DND session we did yesterday.
It's genuinely a really creative and unhinged show, it hits all the boxes for me:
- entertaining and deranged characters with signs of hidden depths
- interesting and entertaining pace
- plenty of great jokes (my favorites include anything about Kinger and Jax.)
- compelling existential dread!!!
Me and my QPP have had a fascination with virtual worlds for a while now and I think TADC hits those boxes of why I personally enjoy virtual worlds with the combination of existential horror in there. That final shot of the pilot will live rent free in my head for a while now I can feel it.
It's so fascinating to me as well given how the animators behind it have gone from making crude and funny Mario 64 machininas to working alongside Gooseworx to create this. Definitely recommend for those who love surreal dark comedy with drippings of dread!
