Started playing Live a Live and immediately started thinking about how cool it would be to make an Anthology game where you create a basic battle/conflict resolution system and then hand it over to a handful of different people to create their own short stories with them.

In general, "Game as a collection of short stories" is a concept I really like and would like to do in some way at some point.

Once this hell project is done that is.

I’ve got a blog post in the works about the anthology format, how it’s been flourishing lately, how it can be used, and its viability (creatively and financially)… and like yeah. As a format it’s still got so much potential!

Here’s an excerpt:

There are so many different flavours of Anthology, all of which are defined by the fact that they’re simply a selection of works presented within a single collection. Even still, there’s tremendous potential for the Anthology, both as a means of getting more short games in front of players and for games to branch out and experiment. Let’s use the Anthology to show how an idea evolves from its earliest incarnations to its final result. Or use the Anthology to uplift a collective of workers, assembling to raise their voices around a particular theme or issue. Use the Anthology to better document the history of the medium and share the stories of more legends in our field, like Roberta Williams or Muriel Tramis. Why not use the Anthology to tell a story about a fictional developer over a series of small, “incomplete” games? There’s so much potential for small games to do something interesting on their own and in conversations with other small games!
