ok so. i installed mint and the mic issue that made me switch off debian came up AGAIN so i wondered whats up. and decided to check the arch docs for my model.

so guess fucking what !!!!

the dell xps 9315 has registered slots for way more audio devices than it actually has ! FOR EXAMPLE: it has 4 registered integrated mics ! and only one actual integrated mic !!!! and it defaults to one that doesnt exist on linux !!!!! so basically its a super easy fix once you know this: you just gotta switch the bridges around so it points to the one mic that actually exists, but figuring that out was annoying !!!!

but in nicer news ^_^

now that i know this i could move back to debian if i wanted to !! (but im tired of distrohopping so i might just stick with mint for now). also this makes the theoretical arch install i may do after getting some practice on a vm easier !!

but ya linux can be rlly frustrating even on the "easy" modes but thats kinda what makes it fun :D except for when you try to do it tired dont try to do it tired
(also im gonna start tagging my os posting for ppl who wanna keep up or wanna mute)

that kinda stuff is unfortunately why I don't use linux as a daily driver anymore 😅 I do love linux, and hate windows, and I love being able to get really fiddly with everything, but having to get really fiddly with everything all the time made me tired
