trying to figure out how to play TI-99/4A BASIC cassette files (as .wav recordings) through either my laptop or phone line out so i can load programs onto my new babie without a $$$ flash cart or disk drive emulator
current problem is that the cord i got with the console, isn't obviously a real TI-99/4A cassette cable? it's got the right 9-pin connector on one end, but it's got a TRS/stereo 3.5 mm plug on the other instead of the expected split into three TS/mono plugs
would love to know which TRS conductors connect to which of the pins so i can at least know if this is a cassette cable in the first place; if it is, then i probably need to stick a stereo splitter in there somewhere so i can make sure the ring is tied to ground (i think the tip is being compared to ring, which isn't generally ground when plugged into my various stereo line outs)
if that is what's going on, then i'm assuming it was meant to be plugged into a tape deck with a TRS jack with tip=headphone out, ring=mic in, sleeve=ground, and it may actually be measuring tip voltage wrt ring (ig cause if you're reading, you're not writing, so the mic should be pulled to ground??); thus, when my stereo jacks are putting the right channel on ring, ring and tip are essentially the same (maybe with attenuation if i pan left), which is attenuating the tip signal relative to the ring (exacerbating the quietness of digital line out signals relative to what the console expects)
