  • wood sorrel (oxalis acetosella, top left) has pretty white flowers and clover-like leaves that close like an umbrella at night. apparently delicious
  • cowslip (primula veris, top right), which was originally called cowslop, is fleshy looking with tubular yellow flowers
  • common dog violet (viola riviniana, bottom left) is my favourite flower!!! it has a cute purple flower and is edible
  • colt's foot (tussilago farfara, bottom right) looks like a dandelion but has distinctive circle within a circle flowers and layered, scaly looking stems

We have the first three here (south-west wales) but I haven't noticed Coltsfoot. We have a lot of primroses and some Wood Anemone too, including on one bank that is not even close to woodland. We have a few spots in this area where we get woodland flowers growing out in the open - I have seen one bare hillside pooled with bluebells, it's pretty great.
