when i was a kid i had a friend whose parents kept all kinds of birds including rheas, which are basically ostriches. i lived in fear of them walking around their yard like giant omnivorous muppets

This is a strong opinion but I think I mostly agree. I do kind of like having a few species that are, though, just to keep things spicy around here.
spice is an important aspect of any ecosystem. did you know kiwis are ratites? i will accept any ratite i can hold like a grapefruit

I’m not afraid of giant birds as much as I don’t think it’s right to keep them in captivity. I mean Australians had literal wars with the ostriches.
