due to deryn's weird and isolated upbringing, the knowledge he has on any given topic is completely unpredictable. i'm compiling a list of things he doesn't know about:
- days of the week (the village he's from uses its own calendar)
- surnames (local naming conventions mean that everyone has a unique mononym)
- the moon (the moon is always close to the horizon and only visible from certain places. having always lived in a wooded valley, he's never seen it)
