there's a pub near here that has a mural with a bit in the local dialect (i think it says "does tha fancy a pint?") and someone crossed out "tha" and replaced it with "you". i'm fascinated to know what kind of person (a) cares so much about "correct" english but (b) has no qualms with vandalism

About two years ago, I was driving back home along the I-376 West, and saw a piece of graffiti under a bridge that said "defund the police" in red spray paint.

Someone else had come in with blue spray point and counter-graffiti'd by X-ing out the "u" and spraying it over with an "e," changing the phrase to "defend the police."

It's a goddamn miracle I made it the rest of the way home without crashing while my brain was busy trying to un-sprain itself from that one. This one has lived rent-free in my head since then.

The choice of word "defend" is poor but I'll let that one slide. They're working with the words that were available, and that one-letter modification is more cleverness than I usually see from that end of the political spectrum.

But like... pro-cop property crime!!?!?!?! You are demonstrating your support for the police by committing a misdemeanor? You're allying yourself with law and order by breaking the law?

The thing I struggle with is that at the end of the day, they're probably right. Pro-cop crime is effectively legal.
