At some point geoguessr started giving 'hints' within the first few minutes of viewing a new place, and I'm finding it very rude to be told "HEY HERE'S A PICTURE OF A LOCAL LANDMARK AND ALSO THE NATIONAL FLAG" while I'm slowly detective-ing my way down to an exact street number. I don't think it was completely careless design so much as a severe underestimation of the huge range of play styles that the game facilitates. I've seen some people nail the correct city within seconds and say 'close enough'. I much prefer to be able to get it down as close as physically possible, even if it takes hours.
There's some sort of pithy statement to be made here about play, in the vein of "the purpose of a system is what it does" (something like "the correct way to play a game is the way that you enjoy") but I'm full of curry and not in the mood to belabour the point
