at like 3am our heater turned off (which is a weird thing to do when one has turned it on and it’s 20f outside).
I went into the basement to see why and found the floor was completely flooded; the boiler had broken underneath somehow and was just hemorrhaging hot water.
Thankfully the floor in there is concrete and stone and the water didn't really cause any other damage but after spending the night on the phone with various contractors and emergency lines, we can’t get anyone out to look at it until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest - also we have NO idea how much it’s gonna cost (part fix? whole thing replacement? we likely can't afford either lmao?) so today I guess it’s economic panic and chill (literally not figuratively) day jfc
another bright side is that today is honestly one of the warmer days (high of 43f, low of 29f) and I’m grateful this had not happened 24 hours earlier when it was -7f
