like if twitter goes down I don’t think we’re all going to end up in the same spot. twitter is more a product of circumstance and timing than anything else, and we’ve just been on there forever because that’s the place where stuff happens.
but with twitter going down in flames there’s room for a diaspora out to more specific sites that have sprung up in the last 5-10 years with the express goal of correcting perceived errors with the way twitter is run. new places with more specific purposes and motives, no more General Place.
whether this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen. likely it’s going to be a huge mix of both. but honestly the prospect of the internet breaking into smaller, more focused communities again reads as an absolute positive to me
