I really appreciate it, honest, reminding myself to check out the little hidden portion of the site every week isn't really intuitive. I can't imagine Artist Alley grants anywhere near as much exposure as it did in its first month or so simply because it might as well be Cohost's best kept secret at this point.

Which is why I wish we could've gone all the way, I struggle to imagine people being aware of the profile's existence after the current Cohost Corner announcement goes by, after a while I imagine it'll be this little known feature that someone might make a "Did you know about this really neat thing?" post about from time to time. What I'm saying is that @artist-alley is just too little, in my opinion.

I don't understand why there's such a big resistance to inserting user ads into the site when we got over 50% of the screen to the sides completely empty, not to mention I think it's pretty popular on sites like FurAffinity, e621, some comic hosting sites, etc. It lets people discover art, which they're actually passionate about and want to consume.

Maybe @artist-alley could be automatically followed by anyone that creates an account on Cohost, or it could just be heavily encouraged like with the staff accounts, obviously my preferred solution is still ads, but I mean, we could still go a bit farther yeah?

Ultimately I know my opinion is a drop in the bucket, the site staff ultimately has their own thoughts on the matter, even if I think they're very misguided, like with the "no volunteers" thing. People are passionate about this site and want it to succeed, the mere existence of a place like this is a goddamn miracle, it'd be a shame for it to fail because big money raising opportunities weren't taken.

in reply to @Furufoo's post:

Yeahh, I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it, hell, I love their "no algorithm" and "no visible numbers" motto, but some of their ideals are just, really really impractical. To the point of being dumbfounding especially as they experience a site threatening money and labor shortage

It is so hard to care about making a point when every update you get dozens of people saying how they don't mind user ads, how they wish staff would fill those empty spaces on the main page with user info, how there's proper, ethical monetization options that wouldn't rely on a mysterious donor, and every other way people have begged to make this site better and have ways to support it, only for staff to ignore and do their own thing.

No one wanted an artist alley account and it won't solve any of the current issues - if anything, it'll only fall into the same old problem of "how are people supposed to find about it and these listings?" but they'll keep shambling on and users will have to make another donor drive in a few months because this is a good site, despite its developers

i wrote a very long comment in response to this post that was more or less saying this feedback all makes sense and is very valuable. we're hard headed people trying to navigate the transitional state from creators -> stewards while also preserving (some of) our ideals and sanity.

i did want to at least mention that we will throw @artist-alley in the recommended accounts list, in the alley itself...and hopefully more places once i can workshop some copy. you're right that it'll still be a bit of a hidden corner to the hidden corner, but we will promote it.
