voice synthesizers are cheap so they have no problem talking
and they usually have a basic wave synthesizer so they can make all sorts of chirps and warbles
but most importantly they can and will play any sound file they can find, repeatedly, at each other, at anyone, at themselves
it's useful for horns, mostly. some skiffs have a signature horn sound! the crowds love it! the mechanics don't love it.
