I'm good being in the audience, community means I need to be active within it and the threat of rejection is too much. Why was I cursed with nothing of value to say independent of others?!
I know this feeling all too well! Not all of us are cut out to be entertainers. There are other roles in a genuine community.
While looking for the source of this post, I also found this other post which says a little more about how these dynamics relate to combative/defensive fanbases. I don't agree with the conclusion at the end, but there's some decent food for thought there about those loyalties are cultivated by and exploited for marshaling fans as little personal armies.
