people really have no idea what peaceful protest is. they act like it equates to legal protest (or even just non-intrusive protest). genuinely when I've told people that our protests have been completely peaceful people have responded with "but the police told them to take down their tents and they didn't!". yes, they did break a rule. but fun fact, nonviolent rule-breaking IS a thing. I saw another protest where people blocked off streets with people commenting saying "why can't we go back to the peaceful protests they used to have". listen, kiddo, I understand that traffic is very annoying. however, it is in fact peaceful protest. you don't want peaceful protest, you want protest that doesn't make you uncomfortable in any way.

They always want "protest" that is nothing of the sort and I'm glad people are not buying it so much. Occupy had plenty of people insisting we should be "nonviolent" as meaning "go away and don't bother anyone" too only a fair number of people supposedly on the side of the protests were kinda buying it

not being “in the way” completely defeats the purpose of a protest imho… its dumb as shit people think protests should and are SUPPOSED to be unobtrusive even to common people, not just people in power. its to BRING ATTENTION to a cause and force people to get involved and do something about it. they're MEANT to evoke strong emotion and therefore action. a traffic jam or business being dead because of protests is EXACTLY what NEEDS to happen in order for actual change to happen otherwise NOTHING will happen. like i get not wanting to miss work or risk getting fired or penalized at a job because of a protest sure but instead of faulting the protesters (which the system WANTS YOU TO DO) we should idk maybe blame the thing that’s happening thats causing said protest and join in the cause? protests are never inherently violent most of the time. sure violence CAN happen (violence can and should be defined as people assaulting or causing harm to others and or property) but violence is not… causing people an inconvenience… thats absolutely ridiculous… it is horrifying to me how people are being controlled and fed this idea that protests need to look a certain way for them to be “acceptable” like babes thats… thats how they get you???

YES EXACTLY its so clear that what they want to say is “I don’t actually support protest and I want you to go away and stop”, but then they know they’d sound bad so instead they just say “I want you to be as easy to ignore as possible” since at a certain point it has the exact same effect
