the itch.io desktop app is refusing to actually update both Godot and itself. it claims to have installed Godot 4.0.3 but when i hit Launch it opens 3.4.4, and it claims to want to update itself to 25.6.2 but i have told it to do so like five times and every time it comes up as 25.5.1.

manually downloaded the itch.io app installer, it's now the latest version, it's still wrong about which Godot version it has installed. hit the Reinstall button, still wrong. uninstalled and reinstalled and it's finally giving me the version it claims to be giving me but it thinks i have no projects

You currently don't have any projects. Would you like to explore official example projects in the Asset Library?

but uh.

No results compatible with Godot 4.0 for support level(s): Official.

Godot 4 has been out for three and a half months, and they have neither updated the official sample assets nor stopped steering people towards the official sample assets that don't exist. if it was just that they hadn't updated the official assets for 4.0, that'd be Average For An Open Source Project (although it doesn't inspire confidence in how easy it'd be to update any of my discarded experiments from 3.x to be compatible), but saying "check out our super cool sample projects that don't exist" for months is just comical. the main thing it reminds me of is Mercurial claiming to this day that it requires Python 2.7. (they also completely ignored the suggestion to stop doing that, and that's not the only thing on the download page that's drastically out of date, but they haven't updated the website since 2020.)
