ah beans i was clowning on mdx at some point but now i have encountered a situation where i really want to drop a svelte <slot /> in the middle of this markdown file. i also had a good idea for adding some actual JS to my website (beyond what i’ve got already), which might be a real nuisance to try to build as hand-rolled JS in static site generator output and would be a lot easier to just write in Svelte.

what if i just gave up on everything and ran wordpress lol

inserting arbitrary html and js in markdown is why my site has been in development for years and gone through at least two architectural rebuilds. there really is merit to the ease of wordpress

i really recommend web components as an alternative to mdx, solely because theyre compatible with regular markdown since you’re inserting a valid html element inline. the drawback is that you have to learn web components, but they’re part of the spec so you’ll never need to update them

i wasn’t seeing any evidence that you can server-side render web components, which seemed like a major red flag, but apparently 11ty will let you so i guess that’s next on the neverending parade of misery. although i definitely tried 11ty before and then didn’t keep using it, and i’ve lost track of when or why. (the odds are decent that this was during my brief Gemini era when i wanted something so flexible it could emit we-have-Markdown-at-home in addition to HTML, which is how i wound up stapling together my own static site generator and in the process breaking things for years.)
