i recently hit 100 days in FFXIV. this is, per the calculator i made, 17.91% of my life since i started in mid-2021.
5 years Eorzea time is 93 days 8 hours real time, so once your /playtime gets beyond that, your Warrior of Light could correctly go up to Mother Miounne / Baderon / Momodi and be like "hey isn't it wild that we're further from my first day than my first day was from the Seventh Umbral Calamity?"
some people's interpretation of time in FFXIV is that it doesn't exist, and it has been zero years since the WoL arrived in their starting city. this idea is occasionally supported by the text of the game (and the official marketing materials), but it's a bit silly. so i was trying to think of other silly interpretations of time that are occasionally supported by the text of the game, and i accidentally came up with something i now genuinely believe.
FFXIV's in-game day/night cycle takes 70 real time minutes, so it's literally present in the text that days and nights happen. 100 days 9 hours 20 minutes of real time means there are 2,065β Eorzean days ("suns") that have textually elapsed for my WoL. i choose to believe that this is just true, and the time i spend in game is canon.
one of the things i like about this interpretation is that it's subjective. how much of a gap was there between the end of ShB and the start of EW? well, if you spent a ton of time leveling other classes and crafting and shit between ShB and EW, there was a ton of time between ShB and EW, and if you finished ShB after EW was released and went straight into it, there was no time between ShB and EW.
(this can get somewhat silly when it comes to side content and linear time - I don't think it's canon that my WoL did the StB all-the-tribes-max-rep quest chain before the HW all-the-tribes-max-rep quest chain, since the StB quests are canonically established to take place after the HW ones.)
do i think this is CBU3's intended interpretation of time? no. do i think the atemporalists are wrong and bad? only if they are yelling at people about it. do i think it's possible that a future expansion will canonize a timeline that isn't this? yes. will i stop believing this if that happens? i haven't decided yet, it probably depends on how they handle it, canon is a polite suggestion.
