Anybody who tells you that a deck cannot have a personality has obviously never talked to a car aficionado, an engineer, or a coder. Inanimate objects can and WILL have them, respect the cards. Just ask mine when they grumbled at first for being used for commission purposes, and a broken picture frame that was next to the box i keep them in.
I will respectfully disagree with anyone who says something along the lines of, "Divination is too vague! It's just telling yourself what you/someone wants to hear."
That's (to me anyway) a huge flaw in thinking, if you needed to just say what you wanted to hear you wouldn't need a deck to do that. Ok maybe the deck would help for those of us on team neurodivergent who do have the brain/body disengage, but is still kinda misses the point.
Yes it's open to no small amount of interpretation, but the... I hesitate to use the word trick for some reason. (maybe key?) is honesty. One of the things I do before any read is promise myself that I will read the cards honestly and with an open mind. The cards shape the reading, not the other way around. If it's not the best reading don't spin it (this applies double with friends!) but address it so they can as well. Otherwise you're doing a disservice and just liable to cause even more harm.
When it comes to magic? (And yes divination is that, fight me) That shit aint cool yo. If you're serious about doing readings, take it seriously.
Anyway, also my way of saying if you do want a reading? (Or just want to buy me a smoothie) I'm now offering my services in this regard, please see the Ko-Fi link. The job hunt continues and any extra income is most welcome.
A very wise person once said that Tarot Cards aren't ink blots, they're a method of creating inkblots. Reading and interpreting them (y'know... what they call CARTOMANCY) is a skill like any other; it can be something you have a knack for, it can be something you're absolute shit at, but it is a skill and can be cultivated.
