Kind of a bummer to see "people here only talk about the things that interest them" essentially framed as a problem that needs solving

and if you squint a bit and think about how much of the userbase is probably autistic, then

well it's not great

you know my dad told me to my face once that i was selfish for not watching the super bowl, because it's all everyone at school would be talking about the next day? like what a fucking weird sentiment. do things you hate so you can socialize over it.

also surprise no one i knew was talking about the fucking super bowl the next day

I'm not even autistic and I find that train of thought baffling, like... yeah, sure, showing different sides of myself to different people comes naturally and I feel no urge to talk about stuff to folks I have no reason to assume they'd be interested in, but... getting into stuff you hate just to fit in? that's just masking with extra steps and arguably even worse than plain old masking to fit in. like where the hell is your own free will, at that point.

are the neurotypicals okay

in reply to @lexyeevee's post:

reminds me of my highschool times

one monent i remember vividly is i think a new star wars movie came out and i genuinely didn't care much for it so one time i said to a classmate i thought i was friends with that i was kinda sick of it being all everyone would talk about at the moment and they looked at me dead in the eye and said "well no one cares about your games"

repeat that sort of thing a few times and now almost a decade later i am still unable to start a conversation with anyone but a few close people i trust because i internalised that feeling that no one gives a shit

allistic people doing "normal" things such as watching things they hate to fit in with other people, right up there with lying/playing mind games thinking the other person will pick up on it, and getting mad if they don't

For some reason, this reminds me of seeing a comment somewhere that was essentially "I need an algorithm to tell me what to see." And I thought that was so bizarre. Like, you have interests and hobbies I would assume. Is it really that hard to search up a few words and find things?

But maybe that falls under watching the Superbowl so you can talk about it with everyone tomorrow. If you always know what's popular, you can always socialize. Sounds tiring, but then I'm an introvert.

Is it really that hard to search up a few words and find things?

On Cohost, absolutely 100% emphatically yes. Search is tag-based, and tagging is awful because everyone would rather continue to make the same mistakes over and over again than learn from sites like Danbooru.

I'll play both sides on this one for a different conclusion: I envy those who are more relatable, but I don't want to become them. Having something in common is great, but a common dislike only invites negative conversation.

Neurotypical L moment, in short.

i liked this post before even seeing what it was about, and from reading it really seems like that person just.... yearns for this site to capture those users who will reply with 1000 of the same reaction image with the same stale joke below every post, or something? not sure why but i don't personally think, that that would necessarily be an improvement,
