Me, reading A Post: well. Yeah. Cyberpunk TTRPGs have been doing "cyberware makes you inhuman" for literal decades and TTRPGs notoriously collect lifer nerds who age into being obvious about being reactionary conservatives; the only noteworthy thing you could do with that attitude is explicitly illuminate the entire "cyberware = medical prosthetics, ergo you're asserting as a fact that physically disabled people who use assistive tech are inherently subhuman, which in our specific historical context makes me wholly comfortable with calling you a Nazi and meaning it literally", which, y'know, I get that that critique is less funny than "tee hee, look at this inexplicable chud",,,
Me, actually clicking through to the original tweet: ah this is a verbatim repost of a tweet that the tweeter has done before, at least a year ago iirc? screenshotting That One Commenter On DriveThruRPG who left That One Comment, gosh, must be a couple of years ago by now I think?
Must be time for the every-few-months "stir up some shit and pretend that it just organically led to marketing the TTRPG in the comments" thing that specific guy does! At least it's not outright "ugh not enough PUNK in their CYBER" Discourse this time!
You know who also did "Ugh not enough PUNK in etc." Discourse, back in the 90s? In so many words, on the page in an actual cyberpunk TTRPG? Pondsmith. Mike "Cyberpunk 2020" Pondsmith. Mike "I prefer my games to do their own talking for me" Pondsmith.
Mike "haha that means these days Imma take the licensing money and let the neo-Nazis at CDPR do my talking for me!" Pondsmith.
Yeah, no, I don't have to believe him or you or anyone writing "capitalism bad" in your RPG makes you The Good Guy; I can see your "periodic just-enough-shitlord marketing strat!" thing just as much as I can see Pondsmith's "silence is the absence of self-painted targets :)" cowardice.
...I just notice, that's all, I notice people with a pattern of holding up just the chuds who also happen to be politically and verbally incoherent and going "haha chud funny!" and not actually going "this is a literal Nazi idea". Cyberpunk RPG systems that contrast medical technologies with Quintessential Humanity are espousing Nazi ideas about the Purity and Correctness of medically normative bodies.
One of the methodological precursors of the Holocaust proper was Aktion T4, a social program under which doctors killed, by some estimates, up to several hundred thousand disabled people, in settings of medical care, as unsupportable financial burdens on the state, because they couldn't hold jobs. This shit matters. Just look at Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying, which is cheerfully euthanasing disabled people right now rather than the state providing social housing for them. Explicitly, not direct medical reasons; "we won't support you to live, but we will kill you if you make it sound like your idea!"
But I guess "chud funneh ;)" sells games, eh? Just enough of a vibe of principles to use it as a marketing bullet point. Just like Pondsmith's silence.
