The "format + install into root partition, use existing home partition as-is" thing is never going to stop feeling magical in that it works — a devastating indictment of the way in which nearly all of desktop computing fucking doesn't.

So now I've re-added the kernel boot parameter which means my laptop doesn't forget it has a keyboard when it sleeps, and I'll no doubt spend a week or so discovering software I actually use which isn't stock Debian/Ubuntu shit and I'll need to hunt it down and reinstall. Or rejig my workflow around it, whatever; I don't have nearly the patience for setting things back up the way I want them that I used to, might start identifying more of those things and just putting them in ~/bin
