hurr blurr "enshittification" is when people previously without any particular thoughts on capitalism start to develop them ex nihilo on the evidence of their own eyes, i.e. that capitalism is at a stage sufficiently emboldened to conduct commerce and routinely cheat literally everyone on the goods and/or services they're paying for, instead of following the Good Path to having negative opinions of capitalism, Leaping Instantly And Fully-Formed To Exactly The Same Understanding As A Smart Guy Such As OP For Random Example, or second best path, reading the Entire Theory Reading List as a prereq to having an opinion; reading list goes 1. Das Kapital, 2. interminable Twitter leftposter factional fighting about what the rest of the reading list should be

people coming naturally to their own small understanding that capitalism is bad should be reviled and severely discouraged from further developing their ideas along lines of why capitalism is bad and what can be done about it, because the important project of opposing capitalism is the one of being extremely shitty to as many people as possible online to make sure they know you're Very Smart

it's the self-entitled rage that gets to me, from people camped out loudly alleging their own leftwing positions, that other people are daring to stagger towards those leftward positions, for no other reason than they're self-evidently better and not because they're following the Approved Indoctrination Path, which is (checks notes) nonexistent to virulently hostile

I mean, I think one can safely suspect that a more honest version of that post would read "I find the word 'enshittification' really annoying for reasons which are neither rationally scrutable, deep, or at all relevant outside my own feelings" but really, who's got time to be honest about these things when you could be using them as a pretext to sneer how Disney adults are subhuman, right?

there's also a lot of people who've known capitalism is bad for a very long time, who've read marx and lenin, simply engaging in a degree of (admittedly slightly flippant) specificity. but some people HATE specificity for some reason and just want everyone to just sit around going "damn. capitalism, man. sucks bro" without ever saying anything else
