ayyyy seen my first, entirely fucking predictable, "shoot me a Cohost ask to contact me about this, because it doesn't have DMs but I'm not slapping my contact details up even under its quasi-protected 'dox yourself' profile settings"

I understand not wanting to run a platform with DMs! Honestly don't understand the pretense that they haven't already put in 90% of the problematic parts, nor the pretense that "just slap your offsite contact details out in public!" is an alternative.

it's indeed mind-boggling that they haven't just introduced DMs.
(Seriously, the amount of people I've seen post things like "okay, because y'all couldn't be civil and not harass me, asks are now closed again" is staggering)

Like, I've had to have someone use duckduckgo's email obfuscation service, drop that in a comment chain we were talking in, and then delete that comment again after I'd sent an email to them.
Surely, surely, some kind of DM functionality would be an easier solution?

And yes, I understand they probably expect they'd need more moderation for them, which is a Big Cost, and makes them leery - but the Bad Shit is already coming from inside the house, so... eh?

Lock that shit down in any way you want (people that follow each other only? idk), just... A Better World Is Possible.

(especially since you're going to start introducing a monetary component to the site as well, which might require some kind of direct communication between 2 people that shouldn't be visible to everyone else, but hey, what do I know)
