In the era of propaganda targeting the English gullible for Brexit, "membership of the European Court of Human Rights" was an extremely niche bit of fringe rightwing "look, you've obviously seized on the word European as an idiot keyword to scream about" dickheadery.
These days, the leader of the ostensible Labour Party is openly and uncritically running with that particular fash hotbutton. He's a fucking human rights lawyer; he knows that "the ECHR" functions, in these discussions, as shorthand for "being signatory to the international treaties which codify and recognise the legal concept of human rights, per se, and he is talking about openly flouting them.
