Is this a writing/drawing challenge for Sapphic September 2024, because I didn't see any, and my brain just waterfalled this all over a page?
It can be if you would like it to be.
No pressure, like, at all.
But if you do, maybe tag your works with Sapphtember so people can discover them?
There could only be one. One chosen warrior. One blessed by their goddess. Only one who would lead them in battle. Their war campaign would take them far away, with limited manpower, and- frankly- limited likelihood of survival. So it only made sense for one of them to go.
Jasmine's blade danced with Erica's. This was no friendly spar. Jasmine had already drawn blood with her sword, but Erika- ever stubborn- refused to give up.
The Armsmaster had to go harder. The two feinted and stepped and stared and turned. Jasmine could still lose this duel. And if she lost, her precious Erica would likely be lost forever, dying on some foreign shore. She couldn't have that.
An awkward swipe from Erica gave the Armsmaster an opening. Jasmine brought her sword down heavily. The resulting slice knocked the sword out of Erica's hand brutally and efficiently.
Erica yelled. Her sword clanged to the ground. Jasmine kicked it away.
Erica looked at Jasmine with eyes stained with determination. "I can still fight."
"I can't let you my love." Jasmine let her edge nick Erica's neck. Her partner, frustrated and humiliated, knelt in defeat. Jasmine lowered her blade.
Jasmine extended an open hand and continued. "Let the Goddess bless me for battle. Let the Goddess bless you for homemaking."
Erica's eyes still burned with that undying heat Jasmine so loved. "So that means you have to make it back. I won't be a single mother. Even if everything else fails- even if it takes you years- I want to see you home alive."
Jasmine sighed. Unlike Erica, Jasmine was calculating, careful, and honest. She could make no promise that wasn't in her power to keep. "If the fates allow it."
