Recently I hit my tenth anniversary since I released my first videogame, which made me reflect on a lot of things, that I finally put into some kind of coherent blog post. It's a bit of a weird thing, because as much as I'm critical about indiegames from the early 2010s as a space, it also really helped me on a personal level.

Here's an excerpt from it:

Ten years ago, I only had ideas. Now I can make entire games myself, and that’s a beautiful thing, despite everything else that frustrates me with this space and the world at large. I may never earn a significant amount of money with my work, I may never “get into the industry”, but as long as I have access to a computer, I can make as many games as I want and no one can stop me.

You can read the whole thing over on my blog!

This is article is a good summary of the way I feel about the indie game scene sometimes.

I think a lot of people are making games because they've been swept up in the fantasy that they'll beat the odds and make a hit and gets lots of attention or money. It's a little sad because you know these people probably also LOVE making games, but they're going to get their hearts broken.

There are so many people making games, and the audience isn't large enough for all of them and THAT'S OKAY. If those people are making games for the love, then not having an audience doesn't matter. But the love part of the process gets lots sometimes.
