They did it with a lot of games. I believe it's primarily the reason that the Probotector versions of Contra exist. Commando was another game that got changed and became Space Invasion.
Most of these are clearly cyborgs, which are people, so I'm not sure how hard Germany was enforcing this.
Please also enjoy the german version of German C&C Generals, which was a 9/11-type war fought ENTIRELY with robots. Even the Generals were robots (even though they never appeared on the actual stages, or died). Also every unit had a robot voice filter. https://youtu.be/NRMqonctTtQ?t=19
