It's not as though I don't already write on here, I just wrote 31 fucking posts about stories and poetry, but I actually don't write too much about myself on here. I haven't done a lot of personal blogging since Livejournal. I think my time in grad school smushed that sense of feeling like it's appropriate to talk about me.

So I thought I'd do @noelBWrites ' November blog series just to try to focus them all on personal narratives. I give myself permission to avoid doing "creative nonfiction" if I don't feel like it.

So. Trick or treat. The last time I wore a costume for Halloween was 2019. I went as Sans, since I already had the extremely cozy Fangamer hoodie. The funny part is that I wore jogging shorts and sandals. My students lost their minds. One, who I'll be honest, did not really care for the class actually, hollered that they couldn't believe they could see my legs.

Additionally, I recommend the trick I came up with a few years before that, for trick or treaters. Put the candy in a bag, or a box, and make them reach inside. Be sure to say, in quiet tones, "be sure to get the candy. And not anything else." 1 It is extremely funny to watch the kids who feel like they're a little too old for Halloween freak out, especially if there's two, and each tries to egg the other on so they don't have to go first.

It's also a great chance to hide like 2 enormous Hershey bars as prizes.

  1. obviously if a very young kid is scared or a neurodivergent kid of any age is scared, we gave them candy anyway, we're not that kind of monster.
