Getting ready for the spooky season, something fun to juxtapose two different conceptions of fairies. I initially planned to leave the wings uncolored and lamented paining over it by accident, but then I remembered I was working with gouache and I could just paint on top of it. And then I remembered I had some pearlescent watercolors lying around which might look really cool

Acrylic gouache, pearlescent watercolor, and ink on 11 x 15'' watercolor paper

we can't help yearning
for the things that don't exist yet

neolithic painters,
who can only find ochre,
aching for greens and blues

the used-to things
ebb tidal in our bodies,
useless memory vibrating static,
bound in ancient graves,
littered with flowers and forgotten rituals

the things we've made will remain,
until they've dissolved,
long past all the imagined ones,
symbolic and hallucinatory,
remembered, beloved

Thoughts on Neptune?

The Planet: Pretty big. That's cool. I have such a vaguely romantic idea of the outer planets. Like just imagining myself in a rocket ship, zipping around between the rings. Just the look of the planet is very serene, like you would find mermaids under the clouds there.

The Roman God: I always had a soft spot for Posideon. If I was a Greek back in the day I probably would be joining a cult worshipping the sea. The fuck am I going to be getting out of some dudes on a mountain? Nah, the sea is powerful. Eugene O'Neill knew it, and I know it. In Disney's Hercules I even felt he got shafted. He is the god of the fucking water, and meanwhile Paul Schaffer is getting more screentime? Anyway I do not know the differences between the Greek gods and their Roman counterparts, so we'll just say he is cool.

The Sailor Scout: Canonical lesbian, so obviously big approval. When her and Uranus do their fake out trick in the Sailor Stars finale I legit tear up every time. So thrilling! Plus she does this: Haruko and Michiru are in an aquarium together. Haruko says "You like this place, huh?" Michiru looks at her and responds "I actually find it quite soothing. I could stare at the view for hours." Haruko says "Well personally, I think being behind the wheel is a lot more soothing then this." Michiru turns and coos "Oh you, I didn't mean the fish." Haruko looks godsmacked. It seems no matter how you look at it, I think Neptune is pretty neat!
