i'm watching net-juu no susume again, where 'again' implies that I watched it to some extent at the anime night I called home back in america somewhere circa 2018. it was a very offline sorta anime night, with lots of focus on the big action show of the season, and going on anime OP guessing websites, and snacking on whatever the multiple-tech-income household felt like providing that week. I wish I could provide a more entertainingly detailed cut of what seasonal shows stuck and what didn't, but all I remember is having 5 minutes of excitedly waiting for astolfo in fate/apocrypha before the group cut it due to it being too word dumpy. I still don't know whether they're right or wrong
in any case, net-juu was the kind of anime that, in my gut, was something that we probably enjoyed as a group. it's just the right level of normal adult things and relatable mmorpg jokes and kind of inoffensively sweet shoujo will-they-won't-they. I wouldn't have a single guess as to whether we finished or forgot it (as I hardly remember anything about the show aside from the main concept) but anyway I'm watching it again now with Japanese subs so I can practice Japanese.
overall it's a fairly easy watch in Japanese, especially when you're already slightly keyed into the F2P namespace, and one that comes with a nice handful of words that I am looking up in jisho before shuffling them dutifully off to notepad (actually visual studio code)
I can't explain what feels "throwback" about secret-identity do-they-know dramatic irony a la mahou shoujo, but it all feels very comfort foody to me, who ate up all the shojo the public library had on offer (which is mostly marmalade boy and some sailor moon monster guides, but bear with me). maybe doubly so because I really prize the connections I forge online and this show where guild of people from random backgrounds (who all accidentally go to the same lawson for all I remember) all support each other really strikes a chord
anyway no thoughts here other than did you know you can read 気色 two ways
