I've been playing Kirby's Return to Magolor Land Deluxe as promised in previous posts. (no spoilers follow)
overall it's been fairly enjoyable, though I can name very few changes to the main game (based on my memory of it a year ago) that are not "a bold outline drawn around all the characters"
I think compared to the later games in the "looks like this sorta kirby game" series (triple deluxe, planet robobot), RtDL lacks level/world consistency in the sense that levels feel like just a collection of rooms rather than telling a subtle story. I think 64 was good at this, but in comparison RtDL you kind of just do a bunch of cool challenges for gear and walk back to magolor who says "hey friend you're my friend!" and kirby replies "poyo"
however, starting with the fifth boss, RtDL really kicks into proper kirby game high gear and never looks back, so there's a plus. the final boss still had me tearing up a little
to speak to the extras, basically all magolor modes are fantastic. the minigames are relatively on the shallow side, but the kirby-air-ride-like checklist (it's not a grid. it should be) gives it a large amount of Accomplishables that I enjoy doing for the masks and for populating the theme park with cute waddle dees.
magolor epilogue (my tweets on it after the cut) is a nice treat of a extra mode where you get to, briefly, play a kirby game where you are way worse than kirby, and then quickly powerramp to being way better than kirby. to be honest I wish the "weak magolor" section lasted longer, but kirby / The Cooler Kirby is kind of like just any kirby game when I remember the dodge roll exists
I have just the extra mode and what I assume is true arena left to go - I haven't decided how much of the game to 100% before I turn it in, and it depends a lot on whether I think I'm good enough to actually beat either of these so I can find out if there's a new Final Final Boss. I have spark and can dodge roll though. Maybe I'll be fine.

I'm going to rename this mode Magolor's Just a Little Guy mode (editor note: all of the magolor monologues in the skill upgrade screen are great)
