does this mfer have a monogrammed vest
i started watching clear card, as my current life trajectory would have hinted. my expectations coming in were that it would be an inoffensive but not too groundbreaking revival of the series - a New Super Mario Bros or so - but currently I'd say it's delivering more fun than I expected!
so let's live blog it a little
what happened this episode
- Syaoran comes back from doing his chores in another country and swaps bears with sakura again
- Sakura has some ominous dreams involving her cards turning transparent and her key turning into a fancier star. both turn out to be real
- Sakura invents a new quotable line for capturing cards. "Secure" doesn't roll off the tongue but it's good to encourage proper opsec
- a tree nearly obliterates Sakura and Kero is like "hm that ain't normal". it turns out to be Gale, an all-new card
the liveblogging
- using an arrange of Platinum for the scene where Sakura and Syaoran reunite, along with a few old BGM tracks, is a layup for easy points, but it's the right thing to do so I commend it
- I secretly have a few hopes that clear card will make use of the fact that their main ship is Actually Together, something which is more uncommon than not. one thing I thought would have been nice to go into more detail in the timeskip was the fact that Sakura and Syaoran kept in touch digitally a fair bit (as she mentions)
- and I mean yeah like everyone I thought "wait Sakura can just freaking Call England now? god, modern times", though another modern moment I had was "ok I know Sakura is the voice of Cagliostro but I should have guessed Yue/Yukito is the voice of Grimnir"
- Sakura casually wishes in a random line that Yukito (not present) could have stayed overnight like it is a casual thing that happens at the Kinomoto household. the concept of this is very funny to me for pretty much all parties under that roof
- Syaoran catches Tomoyo deploying intentional embarrassment and awkwardness (by invoking her fixation on Sakura's costumes) to lighten the mood, thus solidifying her a place in my pantheon of canoncharacters who are excellent at misdirection
- honestly this episode opened with a pretty good Leave it to Kero recap of (waves in the direction of all of the first 30 hours of Sakura). it's funny and fresh and yet familiar
