unvoiced 2* in a tokyo apartment trying to weld end-of-service anime characters into playstation 1 party games

this is a great episode, and furthermore, a real Poster's Episode. there's so many things you can screenshot, like syaoran flanked by the english text "d i e t", to yukito kind of just obliviously floating away into the courtyard, to kero's fucking cursed PS2 controller with a single, centered N64 joystick, but I have to go with this:

Finally, a clear card that turns you into a catgirl

what happened this episode

a new OP/ED appears and gives away the obvious that momo (akiho's plush) is alive. meiling shows up outside tomoeda middle school as a total surprise to sakura and friends, and they all welcome her warmly, except for syaoran who is a dumbass and like "uhh i'm worried I don't have food at home for you. weren't you on a diet". dude, this is why she broke up with you (this is not why she broke up with you). meiling goes to stay with sakura while the rest of her family is out. yukito speaks warmly of how touya and sakura trust each other, then softly begs touya to do the same for him, referencing his cryptic acts from before. touya continues to wall him off, and yukito transforms into yue, who intuits touya is getting his power back and doesn't want to tell yukito yet. sakura and meiling make gyoza, and meiling talks about how syaoran is going through heck with his family because he wanted to come back and see sakura. sakura indicates she knows something is up with syaoran and is worried because she wants to help but doesn't want to pressure him. meiling does the ol "call them both softies in a language sakura doesn't understand" before encouraging sakura to be herself. meiling turns into a catgirl briefly :3. meanwhile, akiho is reading alice in gearland again, and happens to be at just the part of the story where people turn into catgirls. kaito continues to speak of it ominously.

  • look at that SUMMARY there is so much STUFF! we're getting some real good character moments and also the gears of the plot (heh) are really starting to move. I'm really liking how Yukito is being handled this season; his gentle trust with sakura (the two of them being in a fairly unique position, given all of the first 80 episodes), his embracing of yue, and his uncertainty around an increasingly cryptic touya all play off each other really well. also he's voiced by grimnir.

  • congratulations to cardcaptor sakura by the way for just throwing chinese into this show relentlessly. I think it's an appropriate touch for the hong kong crew, and also means that I am equally confused as hell as sakura sometimes.

  • meiling is a real treat of a character all around, which is entirely my hipster cred and fanon speaking, but I appreciate how in this episode she is good at both being very blunt (around syaoran and kero) and very polite (around sakura's father). it gives her character a lot of dimension and also there's so much I can point at like "of course meiling is not going to stay with syaoran when back in japan", "tomoyo shipped meiling prototype cosmetic products from her company", and, to use a line that actually happened, meiling secretly saying "it's hard when you care about each other so much" in regards to how sakura and syaoran handle each other. honestly there is so much fic that spawns from pretty much every direction regarding how sakura/syaoran's relationship affects the people around them in a variety of ways
