what happens this episode
akiho talks about what she read in the book with kaito over breakfast, implying that sakura's events create stories in the book. kaito wishes that alice in the book (sakura) continues to do her best. sakura braids meiling's hair, and meiling calls syaoran on the phone when sakura waffles about checking in on him directly, refusing to take the phone back.
akiho and sakura go over to tomoyo's house, where sonomi does the singsong talking-to-herself thing that has very mom energy. in the daidouji theater, tomoyo shows off video footage of the play from the second movie, up until when an earthquake interrupts it. she then shows off some rehearsal footage, which gives sakura the feels looking at syaoran, before an earthquake (surely no coincidence) interrupts in real life. sakura snoozes everyone who isn't in the know, and the episode cuts off before she encounters the card.

meiling's ability to play the straight man is unmatched as of recently. this makes sense because the core middle school cast is mostly full of airheads plus a passive observer with a camera, but she really can both shove sakura and syaoran along as well as handle akiho's naivety

I've been skimming reaction threads on reddit (not sure where else to go other than... MAL?) to see if I missed anything after each episode, which is how I learned about the play being from the second movie, and I gotta say - the way cardcaptor sakura really doesn't want you to know if the second movie is canon (a hot point in these threads) has just gotten twice as funny with the half-answer in this episode. I always felt I'd know based on how together Sakura and Syaoran are, and the answer is: I've watched 15 episodes and I still don't know whether they're not together or if they're just dumb lovebirds who suck at this

I am unlocking new Tomoyo Dimensions. the way that tomoyo demurs when sakura asks for tomoyo to show off videos of her singing (instead of more sakura videos), calling it "not very interesting". the way she freezes up when sakura asks tomoyo to stay put for safety during the earthquake, instead of following with a camera in hand. I'm feeling fine and normal and also uncertain if this reconciles with what resides in my head but it will be exciting to find out
