unvoiced 2* in a tokyo apartment trying to weld end-of-service anime characters into playstation 1 party games

unrelated to OP image, but to speak of spoilers from this episode in the most appropriately cryptic yet pun-filled way:

finally, it's time

what happened this episode

sakura captures the big honking dragon (Swing) from last episode basically immediately. on the way home from tomoyo's house, akiho runs into kaito, and the two have a completely normal conversation with extremely ominous vibes. kaito makes a verbal slip-up, raising akiho's suspicions, and he immediately takes out his pocketwatch and reverses time (!!!) to undo it. meanwhile, meiling, returning with sakura, tells her "if you believe everyone around you is good, you'll attract good people, but if you believe everyone around you is bad, you won't see the good people around you".

meiling also has a distant look when saying "sometimes it feels bad when you're around only good people", before a clear card interrupts the two. a mixture of fight and twin, sakura and meiling fight together hand-to-hand to capture Struggle. meiling is happy that sakura thanked her instead of always apologizing to her, and tells her "if you only care about others, you stop caring about yourself". on her way to the airport alone again, meiling requests that she and sakura go by first-name basis, to which sakura happily accepts.

  • everyone who eyed kaito thinking "this man is sus as hell" finally gets to stand up and clap but oh man what a power for him to unveil. time magic is not a surprise given his clock theme, but rewinding time is a chef's kiss moment. of COURSE the man who is impossibly perfect and good at everything can just erase any mistakes he's ever made. that's so good.

  • the cliffhanger of the Swing card from last episode was basically a whole lot of nothing, which raised the question of "why do that", but Struggle's fight was great here and served the obvious purpose of giving Meiling a chance to contribute and fight alongside Sakura (something that I'm convinced is intentional, given what she was saying before and Sakura's tendency for subconsciouslyh manifesting cards). bonus points to Meiling for striking the Bruce Lee "come and get it" hand gesture

  • Meiling dropped a lot of raw lines this episode, especially the one about how it can feel rough to be surrounded by people who are kinder and better than you, and I appreciated the parallel of how Meiling headed off to the airport on her own terms without Syaoran again, and again gave him a bit of a push forward to be open with Sakura and to make her happy. this season really did her well, I'm so proud
