recently, I finished the first season of birdie wing.
the last episode of birdie wing s1 makes no indication that it knows it's the last episode, to the point of throwing up a next episode preview despite having not announced a definite season 2 at the time.
it's an incredibly Eve move. she'll golf when she feels like it.
unfortunately, clear card is aware of the fact its season is ending, and just doesn't appear to know what to do with it. it sure didn't want to unload any of it's chekhov cards
what happened this episode
akiho and sakura have a synchronized dream where an ominous voice tells them "you can't turn back". after being questioned by momo, kaito strengthens his resolve to mysteriously stop whatever will befall akiho. kero barely avoids garroting yamazaki for his shitty kansaiben. syaoran's cell phone appears to be magically blocked when trying to contact both sakura and england.
akiho confides in tomoyo that sakura is in her dreams (but in a way different from how sakura is undoubtedly in tomoyo's). at home, sakura reminiscences about her adventures with kero before being thrown into clockspace. she snaps out of it and opens the window to reveal the hooded figure - she gives chase, with kero being blocked and unable to approach.
sakura and the hooded figure have a magical fight of moderate length, before the hooded figure absorbs sakura's key and cards, sending her plummeting. as she falls, she reveals the hooded figure to be akiho in a trance.
kaito freezes time to save sakura, and comments about how the amount of clear cards isn't enough (just announce the s2 bro). he rewinds time at great effort, to momo's concern. momo, and potentially sakura, remember the incident.
sakura looks at syaoran's bear for the 20th time this season, and lets out a classic "zettai daijoubu". she goes off to school with syaoran

yeah! that's it! at the least you'd hope for some big teases or something but all you get is "the hooded figure is tranced akiho" (you knew that) and "kaito is not evil per se" (you knew that). so many characters who have been waiting on the sideline - touya, all of england, syaoran - continue to be there. even kero's incredibly annoying persona this season turned out to be mostly him poker-facing the fact that sakura's increase in power is worrying him and yue.
sorry if you had to wait like 4 years for season 2 to even be announced! like obviously it was necessary but I doubt it was clear that it was definitely going to come rather than be stuck in purgatory.
also in a kero moment I'd like to note that he used his fire breath from inside of sakura's room during the fight scene here. we're just gonna nod and use suspension of "oh no what about all the stuff in her room" about that
overall I'd say clear card was a very fun season with regards to giving motivations and depth to a lot of side characters (meiling and yukito are my particular winners) but like just as the plot was actually starting to ramp, the whole plane got sent around into a holding pattern again so like. see you sometime.
I can't emphasize how much the show keeps focusing on syaoran's bear in sakura's room and it's like. is this a magic item? are we supposed to be suspicious of it? or are we viewing it as a sign that syaoran has her back? (he didn't even DO anything this episode even after making multiple dramatic vows that He Will Protect Sakura)
you can't just go clear card come back
