i'm waiting for my 100g of oatmeal with 8g of raisins and a few shakes of cinnamon sugar in it to cool so I might as well morning cohost
I'm like 5 hours into Labyrinth of Galleria now, and likely to put in another ??? hours this weekend. a friend described Zelda BotW as "scratching their Adventuresense itch, the same thing that makes me lift the full fog of war on RPG maps that have fog of war" and I think that's like half of the DRPG experience for me
it's 50% exploring maps and walking on every tile, and 50% emergent roleplaying where I build a genki girl Uzuki normal knight character who was NOT the party DPS but then she finds a sword that's really overlevelled for this area of the game and now she's the hard carry. honestly that's pretty uzuki of her
nippon ichi games have finally broken me in that they have introduced so many mechanics that I have shifted all my character builds to "flavor-focused" rather than "numbers-focused" which means I made my DPS Gloomy (she does not listen to hip-hop though) even though I don't think it was an optimal trait for min-maxing their DPS output.
this game lets you have TWO personality traits and you can combine them with a variety of words. brave-type loner. weird, trying to be noble. very reckless. I haven't even bothered engaging with the "lucky number" field or the "text field where you can input as much flavor as you want"
(by the way character name limits are down severely from refrain and I don't know why. This is suffering)
anyway like disgaea I am operating under the assumption that I don't need to fully min-max unless I'm doing bonus content so I'm going to go out there and have fun and then immediately drain all my resources once I hit the gothic hammer catnonbinaries (AND THEN I will spend like 10 hours figuring out what to name them)
also galleria's story is starting really slow and from accidental spoilers it appears it will kick in at the point in the game where I would otherwise assume the game is finished. this isn't bad I'm just laughing and thinking "let's gooo"
