i'm in part 2 somewhere don't click this if you don't wanna know stuff
alright so this part, mechanically, differentiates itself hard from all of refrain and galleria by forcing me to slog through a bunch of randomly generated floors while not knowing where the enemies are.
it's a choice, given that I specifically praise refrain/galleria a lot for putting all the enemies on the map so that I can do some Tactical Evasion Action, and that I enjoy DRPGs because filling out a map is like filling out a checklist to my brain (though I put galleria on blast for some of the ways it gates progress behind looking at a map and guessing "there's some shit there")
I mean, technically, the enemies are still there on the map as before but I just can't see them and so I have to kind of triangulate using the Oh Shit, Enemies bar but ... anyway, we'll see how it shapes out
storywise this part is coming at things from a different angle, with Nachi being a noted shut-in of school age, in a world that's slowly falling apart (literally) and witches being persecuted in a different, more big-brother way than part 1's commoners-vs-elites vibe. the pace of story drops is pretty nice (being every 6 floors so far) and I'm tugging at my collar looking at the ESRB rating and saying "sooo you never told me about the Old Man Creeps On Schoolgirl plot but you did tell me about characters getting blood on them so are we gonna dust this man or what"
anyway the class designs in part 2 are just INCREDIBLY, RIDICULOUSLY good. like takehito harada's stuff in part 1 was always great but doing things like making the mages have even hotter androgynous haircuts and giving the nonbinary cat maids a fucking cannon instead of a hammer. absolutely genius.
