it's actually just all sonic frontiers today even though I only played it for 2 hours
all workday and no play makes canon go eat beef noodle
I tried a new beef noodle place at a station near where I live today, it's currently 300y off for its opening month and my review is that I would eat there more often if it stayed that price; the beef noodle place in Jinbocho's got the better flavor even as the chili oil makes me constantly at risk of causing a scene by coughing
load bearing vibes
here's a tweet I made after beating Giganto, an early boss in Sonic Frontiers:
"just beat the Giganto fight in Sonic Frontiers and every clunky button-mashing quicktime moment of it scored to an absolutely scorching metal track puts 1000 underlines under how hard this game Gets that the sonic series should run on OSHA-violation-level Load-Bearing Vibes"
Sonic Frontiers is a game that countless people made in their heads when they are 10, and it turns out 10 year olds are not the best at game design, but also mashing to deflect a laser beam as Super Sonic while a 2010s AMV track plays is simply peak Sonic, regardless of how difficult the fight was without cheese and how trivial it was with cheese.
in general my life is difficult without cheese
(I play on easy, by the way, and "high speed mode", which is a physics toggle separate from difficulty that the game really has not told me anything about, despite constantly telling me If Enemies Flash They Are About To Attack You)
like the open-zone concept is, at best, that one multipurpose toy you play with at the pediatric dentist, and at worst, actively fighting your momentum at every step, and the cyberspace levels are comically sonic at its going-80-in-heavy-fog worst when in 2D, but they decided to put music game hardcore BGM over chemical plant zone visual cues and, apparently, level layouts from previous mainline games. Sonic Frontiers is 100% an Ideas Game and that's honestly what the franchise can capitalize on the best right now because you know an idea like this wasn't gonna be a Good (tm) Game
were the sheep herding or laser reflection puzzles good? no. were they funny? yes
my effort to consume as much of this game's vibes in goblin mode as possible are supplemented by how every time I see someone complaining about the elements I haven't discovered in this game, like the fishing, or the pinball, or the slot machine blood moon (?????), I cackle a bit more in the "yessss they added a bunch of dumb minigames for reasons which are unclear to everyone" way. That is my hometown.
